Hunter: Chapter 6

Sinner and Bearcat went over to her and picked her up off the floor. They dragged her away to where the cells were and when they came back, they handed Hunter the keys and her cell phone. He turned to look at Thunder.

He just sat there, looking shell shocked.

Hunter walked over to where Sabrina and Phoenix were sitting. He knelt in front of Phoenix and reached out to take her hand. “What did you remember about that day honey? We need to hear the words.”

She crushed his fingers in her own and she began to talk, “When that man Burr called out to mom and she pushed me behind her, I looked around for someone to help us. I thought I saw someone standing at the corner of the coffee shop, but she ducked back, so I didn’t see her clearly. I do know she was wearing a purple shirt and jeans. Mom was arguing with the man then Mac rushed up out of nowhere and there was a gunshot. Things got a little crazy for a few minutes but somehow, me and Mac were on the ground. Mom was screaming out my name then there was another gunshot and I was in pain. Oh my god, it hurt so much. I couldn’t hear anything for a moment and the pain was making me lightheaded. Then Burr grabbed me and forced me into the car and we took off.” She looked up at him. “I was looking out the back window and I saw Misty standing there, next to Mac. She was smiling like she was crazy or had just won the lottery. It was just this side of insane though.”

Rambler came over and grabbed Phoenix from the chair ripping her away from Hunter then crushing her into his arms. “Are you sure it was her?”

Phoenix nodded. “She had that same crazy look in her eyes that day as she had just now.”

“She’s known the whole time who was responsible for Mac’s death.” Snowman shook his head in disgust. “All these years, we’ve blamed the wrong party and she knew it the whole time. Hell, she made sure she set it up, so Shelby would take the blame off her own fucking shoulders.”

“Yeah, she knew but so did all of you!” Phoenix cried out as she fought to get free of Rambler. “You all thought it was my mom too, but you never went after her.”

“That’s where you’re wrong, baby girl,” Thunder reminded her as he looked up from where he was sitting. “I looked for her but there was never any trace of her, remember? I spent years trying to find her but she was nowhere to be found. My guys couldn’t find a trace of her or you anywhere.”

“They just didn’t know where to look,” Sabrina told everyone. “My sister knew how to hide. She had to, as that was her life before she left home.”

“So you tell me then.” Thunder turned to her. “How do we find her?”

Sabrina had a light bulb moment going off and she began to smile. “We make sure it’s safe and then we simply tell her it’s time to come home.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Thunder roared. “Why wouldn’t it be safe here?”

Sabrina got to her feet and looked down at the big man. “She won’t come near here as long as there is a threat to her life. Odin and Burr are that threat. She’s lived with it since you took her out of there all that time ago. She could never let that fear go. She still can’t. As long as those bastards are out there walking around free men, she’ll never come back here. She loves you enough not to want to see you hurt or dead.”

“How do you know that?” Hunter asked. “You haven’t seen her since you were a kid.”

“By her own words. She told my mom that she found what they had once. Those two loved each other so much you never knew where one of them stopped and the other began. She thought she had that with him. Why do you think she’s still running after all this time?”

Hunter studied her face for a long moment, then he turned to Thunder. “What do you think boss? She could be right?”

Thunder nodded slowly. “She could be right. Shelby always told me she loved me the way her parents loved each other. I had no clue what she was talking about and she never would tell me. She always told me that secret would go to her grave with her.” He sat there thinking about what she said before. “She’s right about one thing though. We have to bring the Vikings down once and for all. I’m tired of pretending they matter. We should have dragged Burr back here for a tribunal.”

“We could make it big enough the papers would carry the news, so she would know it was safe for her,” Rambler suggested.

“Only problem I see with that is how do we do it?” Sinner commented. “We have no clue who they’re dealing with at the moment.” He shrugged. “We all know they are dirty as hell and we only think we know who’s backing them but no one really knows for sure. Odin is hiding the real power behind him for a reason.”

“I’ll work on finding out all I can,” Wizard piped in. “We can then make a plan on how to set a trap.”

“In the meantime, can we trust the food that Misty fixed today?” Hunter asked.

The men all looked at each other. Most were shaking their heads, no.

“Pizza it is, then,” Snowman announced, “I, for one, never trusted her to begin with.”

Hunter nodded then looked over at Sabrina. He then grabbed her bag.

“Hey now, I thought you were done taking my stuff?” she snapped.

He shook his head. “I’m going to show you where you will be staying.”

She bit at her lip in embarrassment, as she heard a couple of the men chuckling. Avoiding all the stares, she followed him out.

Hunter went down a long hallway and then stopped at a door. He opened it and stepped aside.

Sabrina went in and looked around. It was painted a beautiful shade of blue and had a queen sized bed, dressers and a side table with chairs. “Wow, not bad.” She looked down at the blue comforter on the bed.

“We rebuilt the place last year,” Hunter said as he closed the door and set her bag on a side table.

Sabrina turned to him. She felt curious about this man who had caught her then helped her. “So what do you do here?’

He tilted his head at her. “I’m the enforcer.”

She raised her brows at him. “And that means?”

He smiled.

She paused for a second at the dazzling smile, never having seen it on him since they met. It really affected her. Damn, he is so cute when he—

“I go out and find whomever is threatening the club,” he replied. “Or, I protect the Pres when he’s out.”

She studied him. “So, you’re like a protector? Or…” she paused. “Oh, so Hunter is not your first name?”

He laughed as he moved closer to her. “Hardly, it is my club name. My road name.”

She smiled waiting for him to reveal his real name.

“What?” He stared at her.

Sabrina felt a bit antsy with the look in his eyes. She couldn’t pinpoint what the look meant. “I was waiting for you to tell me your real name.”

He bit at his smile. “And why would I do that?’

Feeling like they were flirting all the sudden, her cheeks flushed. “Cause I asked. I mean it’s only polite to—”

He was suddenly right up in front of her. Grabbing her arms, he tugged her close. “How about a kiss first. Then I will formally introduce myself.”

Her eyes rounded. Okay, she would admit to wondering what that would be like but she had no idea he’d thought about it. He’d acted like she was some kind of hindrance ever since he found her. “Ok,” she whispered.

He tilted his head. “Okay to the kiss?’

“Yes. That’s what I said wasn’t it?”

He smothered her mouth with his and took her breath along with her words away as his tongue eased in between her lips.

Sabrina had not been prepared for a kiss like this. He explored her mouth with his and his tongue delved in deep. Her legs went weak as she kissed him back. Wow. She felt like she was burning up.

Abruptly, he stopped and stepped back. He looked stunned, like she felt.

`Attempting to catch her breath, she asked, “So tell me.”

He blinked at her. “What?”

She laughed nervously. “Your name.”

“Nicco,” he replied.

“Just Nicco?” she wanted to know.

“No. It’s my first name. I got two more.” He grinned at her.

She waited but she loved watching his face. He had such dark eyes and she never noticed the heat in them till now. “And they are?”

He still looked amused. “Well, maybe another kiss or…?”

She laughed. “I never saw this when you were with the other men.”

“Saw what?” He looked confused.

“That you are a flirt and you know you have such charm.”

He laughed out loud.

It startled her as he had this deep rich baritone laugh and she got goosebumps from the sound of it.

He slowed to a chuckle. “Look…I have a job and when on said job, well I take it seriously. But with you…” His voice fell away.

Sabrina opened her mouth to ask.

Hunter raised his hand up. “I’m in the room next door. So if you need anything?” He headed to the door.

Sabrina didn’t want him to go, but she wasn’t any good at flirting and didn’t know how to stop the man from leaving, so she just watched him.

He turned when he got to the door. “You can shower and change. We will have pizza coming in a bit.” He went out, shutting the door.

Sitting down on the bed, Sabrina touched her lips, as she could still taste him. “Nicco, huh?” She shivered.
